Federal Way Little League Receives $50,000

King County and Councilman Pete von Reichbauer honored Federal Way National Little League with a 50k grant to improve access to fields for players that require wheelchairs or other means of mobility.

This grant will help Federal Way National Little League (FWNLL) provide a better experience for Challenger Division players.  Challenger is for individuals with physical or intellectual challenges.  Players range from age 4 to 18; or up to 22 if still in school.  Many of these players and families travel from miles away to participate.

Every year Federal Way National Little League opens with a Jamboree, it’s parade of players and a Challenger game between the Rockhounds and the Rivercats. It’s a tradition that has gone on for many years on opening day.  See for yourself at the next Jamboree scheduled in April.  Visit FWNLL to see upcoming events.

Olivia Sullivan of the Federal Way Mirror covered the grant presentation in her article $50K grant will upgrade Federal Way baseball fields for disabled youth. She does an excellent job capturing the spirit of what Challenger does for our youth and community.  Specifically, the great work that volunteers Kirk Westrick and Amy Westrick do and how Sally and Zackery have grown with the program.

This author knows several people involved and would like thank those that have shown their friendship and support for FWNLL.  Special thanks to Pete von Reichbauer & his staff, King County, the Westrick family, Olivia Sullivan, and the many volunteers that keep the league going year after year.
